Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year!
I am SUPER excited about starting this 2019-20 school year as your new assistant principal at Dobson Academy. I am looking forward to working alongside Dr. Winn to support all students academically, socially and emotionally. In addition to working with our wonderful staff, parents and Dobson Academy community. I know this will be a great year, and I am looking forward to meeting you all. I strongly believe in open communication and developing a strong home to school connection/partnership. Please feel free to contact me with any celebrations or concerns you may have. Let’s have a GREAT Year!
I was born and raised in Stamps, Arkansas until the age of 12. This is the city that Dr. Maya Angelou talked about in her book, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (1969). After leaving my home town, my family traveled to California and finally settled in Des Moines, Iowa where I lived for 30 plus years. I have a wonderful husband, six handsome sons, one grand-daughter and one healthy happy baby on the way (YaY)! My family and I love Arizona and now call this home.
When I am not traveling and exploring the world with my family; I give my time and talents to promoting literacy and STREAM programs by advocating, fundraising, planning, developing and implementing out of school programs, community service-learning projects and shipping books, equipment and school supplies to schools and nonprofit organizations and under-served communities in the United States and Africa.
I was educated in the Midwest where I earned my Specialist in Education Leadership degree and two masters’ degrees from Drake University, a bachelor degree from Iowa State University and an associate of arts degree from Des Moines Area Community College. I hold licenses in the State of Arizona and Iowa as a PK-12 Principal/Special Education Administrator and a master teacher. I have taught in middle and high school. I am endorsed in business, economics, sociology and gifted and talented.
